Wildlife Education Committee Provides Report to City Council

At the May 2 City Council meeting, Bruce Nicholson, Chair, Wildlife Education Committee, reported on the following Committee past, present and future Committee activities:

  1. Providing grants to Fair Oaks Ranch Elementary and Van Raub Elementary for their Life Skills programs.  Children, teachers and principals of both schools were in attendance at today's meeting to discuss and present their projects:  Chicken Club and Flower/Vegetable Garden.
  2. Purchasing animal kits containing sample skulls, pelts, paw prints, etc. of local wildlife that will be available for events and for F.O.R school libraries as needed.
  3. Purchase of additional Wildlife Education signs for the permanent sign on Fair Oaks Parkway and Dietz Elkhorn.
  4. Holding bi-annual Wildlife Education events.
  5. Publishing quarterly newsletters on city's website and articles in the monthly Gazette.
  6. Sponsoring annual wildlife photo contest.

Thank you to all Committee members for their time and work on creating community opportunities for public education about wildlife in Fair Oaks Ranch:  Bruce Nicholson, Debby Stephens, Scott Russell, Dedie Manitzas, Paul Mebane, and Teal Harris.
